Us General 4 Drawer Tool Cart Assembly

Got US General 5-drawer tool chest -- drawers all stuck

I just purchased a yellow US General 5-drawer tool chest -- but on opening the box, none of the drawers will open. The lid is closed.

I'd like to get to the parts inside the drawers to assemble it :)

Is there some trick to opening the drawers? Or, is this defective?

You have to open the lid to open the drawers.

Yeah with u/AxisOTW said, have to lift the lid in order for the drawers to open! It's a great chest, you'll love it!

I recently bought a white 5-drawer. I love it, but I'm not sure I like the lid-lock mechanism. The unit will live in my house, and there will be plenty of times in which I'll want to quickly grab something from a drawer. Fortunately, the lid has those nifty gas shocks that lift the lid right up. Still, I'm sure I'll end up piling stuff on top of it, and I'll have to move all that crap before accessing a drawer. I'd much rather have a key that locks the lid and drawers at once.

You can defeat that mechanism.. seems easy enough, there's some threads about it on garage journal. It's on my short list of things to do

I simply removed the mechanism that locks the drawers so I can open them when the top lid is closed.

The drawers each have a lever under that handle that needs to be pulled to unlock the drawer
